Art & Design

Yew Chung International School of Shanghai's art programmes let students study many forms of art, from murals to sculptures, to learn how creativity and imagination can enrich their lives.

Art is more than just colour, paint and sketches. It's an expression of how you see the world, an exercise of creativity, and an outlet for imagination. There's also nothing more entertaining to a child than experimenting with colour and paint. Yew Chung International School of Shanghai's art programmes let students study many forms of art, from murals to sculptures, to learn how creativity and imagination can enrich their lives.

Children are taught to:

  • Explore and develop ideas, by sketching down their thoughts and eventually choosing which ideas they want to develop.
  • Mix different materials, tools and techniques (for example, using dyeing, printing and embroidery to create a textile) to achieve effects.
  • Review their own and others' work, learning to form and communicate their own opinions.
  • Combine colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space.
  • Investigate the roles and purposes of artists, craftspeople and designers in different times and cultures.
