Music at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai is a vital part of school life, playing a significant and direct role in the development of a student. The subject is standard to the curriculum and is studied by all students up to Year 9. In these classes, students learn to aesthetically and practically appreciate the arts. Over 400 students are voluntarily involved in the school's comprehensive after-school music programme, which consists of twelve regularly rehearsing musical groups; three orchestras, three choirs, and six Chinese music and dance groups.

Aims:

• Open the ears and minds of students to as many different types of music as possible from around the world.
• Offer students the opportunity to develop an understanding and love of music.
• Offer students the opportunity to extend their skills and learning, up to a level that will befit them for entry into a high-level university or conservatoire study of music.
• Promote, in real terms, through the implementation of our bi-cultural music programme, the study of both Western and Eastern music, emphasizing Yew Chung's commitment to a bi-cultural approach to education.
