Culture and arts is a fundamental force in the fully rounded and balanced education offered at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai).

The school offers a unique educational programme called the Artist-in-Residence programme in which a contemporary, working artist interacts with students in class. Students have the chance to learn about the dynamic art scene in China and worldwide and learn techniques and art forms straight from the pros.

Music plays a major role in school life at YCIS Shanghai. Research shows that music training enhances a child's spatial-temporal reasoning, leading to improved maths performance, memory span and intellectual development.

Students receive compulsory violin lessons from K4 to Year 3, with lessons becoming optional activities thereafter. These young violinists have numerous opportunities to display their talents in school concerts and musicals, as well as public performances. Students will not only learn to play the violin, but they also benefit from taking part in the event's production where they learn about team work and other social skills.
