Yi Ning (Bethany) & Ying Ying (Crystal), Year 12, Gubei Campus
The YCIS Career Symposium, “A Conversation with Women Leaders” immediately interested us because it is an honour to hear from so many successful women leaders working in different fields. As Year 12 students, we are soon going to finish high school and step into another important phase of our life. We were very pleased to hear advice about how to quickly adapt in an unfamiliar environment, and more significantly, how to make yourself stand out. All four speakers at the symposium introduced their businesses and shared some of their experiences in the workplace.
We should be thankful that gender inequality has reduced significantly around the world over the past twenty years. Women now have more opportunities than ever. However, in fields with mostly men, such as IT, how do women show their capabilities? We learned that boldness and confidence are two essential factors to success. Always believe in yourself, and know that your career and taking care of your family can be equally important.
It was a very engaging experience for both of us since we had the chance to interact with the speakers and ask them questions regarding our future majors. By hearing their life stories, we have learned that college majors do not necessarily decide everything. Life is a long journey so you have plenty of time to try new and challenging things. Your life may not always be a straight line, but you can always make sure that you are trying to move forward!
