Because international schools have students from all over the world, it gives us, as students, the opportunity to be introduced to many different cultures and traditions. At YCIS, we celebrate various festivals, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Diwali, and Chinese New Year, and these celebrations are the doorways to the numerous cultures represented at our school.

The recent Alliance for International Education (AIE) conference at YCIS was great! After some preparation ourselves, we met with all of the other students in attendance and we had a brainstorming session with Mr Dang from YCIS Hong Kong. We then went to the gym where we had our Youth Forum, discussing pre-written questions, as well as some that came from the conference’s audience (which was composed of teachers and principals). It was an amazing experience!

The Chinese programme at YCIS sets it apart from the other international schools in Shanghai. Learning Chinese at YCIS helps my classmates and me gain a better understanding and perspective about the Eastern world, and it helps develop our cross-cultural thinking and open-mindedness.
