New Opportunities for the New School Year

Anna, Year 11, Century Park Campus

After two months of academic intermission and separation from our friends, there is undoubtedly an air of excitement to be back to the buzz of life at school. The beginning of the school year is a chance to head back into the bustling routine of life at YCIS (and in my case, the final year of IGCSE) refreshed, optimistic about the opportunities the school year may bring, the chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and to tackle school with a fresh reserve of enthusiasm, such as “This year, I will do more ECA’s (Extracurricular Activities)!”

What Is It Like to Participate in the Performing Arts at YCIS?

Ao Lan, Year 12, Gubei Campus

The performing arts are all about passion and self-expression. This is a universal language which we can all speak, and one in which I find myself “fluent”. Being a part of the performing arts has been an emotional journey of self-discovery for me. Through every production, monologue, and even written tasks, I learn something new about myself. Participating in the performing arts has molded me and shaped my growth in ways no other subject has. It has helped me build my confidence and become surer of my own identity, as well as my role in both my community and society. It has provided me with the perfect platform and numerous opportunities to shine as a performer, and to learn from experience.

At YCIS, the food in the cafeteria is really good – better than my Primary school. PE class is very fun, and Maths class is also quite fun. The school has many activities, such as “Penny wars”, an annual food fair, and a Back-to-School Carnival. These are really interesting and exciting activities. And I love the food fair the most because we can taste food from many countries and it’s really good. There are many sports in the CISSA league. We play at tournaments, and it’s really exciting!

Why I love Playing on a YCIS Team

Shu Min, Year 9, Century Park Campus

If there was one thing I would tell any new student at YCIS, I would tell them to get involved in as many sports and activities at school as possible. Generally, sports have always been my favourite activity at YCIS. Personally, I love sports; it’s just one of the ways to relieve some stress from my busy life, and being involved in sports has shaped and formed me into the person I am today. When I have to wake up at 6 in the morning for early practices, it’s all worth it when you later make the winning goal, basket, or just cross the finish line! I think that most sports enthusiasts like myself would agree that it is fun and exciting!
