Geography allows students to orientate themselves in the wider world. It shows how the physical structure of earth has come into being and allows students to think about and assess the impact of human societies on their environment.
The link between humans and the geography around us are fundamental learning features of the course, drawing upon case examples and field studies in China and neighbouring countries, while striving to offer perspectives from across the globe.
The study of Geography aims to assist students by:
- Continuing to build upon their knowledge of places, processes and systems. General geographical knowledge should be integrated with opinions regarding actions and policies on a regional, national and international level.
- Developing a deeper understanding of the linkages between geographical studies and the other areas of humanities.
- Perceiving their own roles and scale in the global picture, and how to make their individual role a caring one.
- Understanding and appreciating the natural beauty of our Earth.
