YCIS’s Hongqiao Campus capped off a wonderful year of music study with a Summer Concert to remember, with students, families, and faculty gathered at the historic Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall for the annual end-of-year performance.
The First Act of the concert opened with the YCIS Hongqiao Campus Primary School Orchestra playing a variety of arrangements in styles ranging from Baroque to modern movie themes, showcasing students’ musical talents well beyond their years. Students in The Vienna Dance group were featured in the “Blue Danube Waltz”, then delighted the crowd by dancing gracefully alongside the Primary Orchestra, and Act One ended with a lively rendition of “Hungarian Dance No. 5”.
The audience was treated to a number of dance performances in Act Two, including ballet, hip hop, and traditional Chinese dance. In between the beautifully choreographed routines, top musicians in Years 4-6 performed piano solos and duets, highlighting some of the individual talents that have been nurtured through the YCIS music program.
“The only thing better than singing is more singing” Ella Fitzgerald once said, and concert attendees was treated to just that in Act Three. The Hongqiao Campus Junior Choir sang “Sing It Louder”, followed by the Primary Senior Choir singing ”Believe”. The brilliant and dedicated YCIS Parent Organisation Puxi (POP) Choir sang “Let’s Make the World a Better Place” before joining the junior and senior choirs on stage for a stirring performance of “Zui Hao De Wei Lai”.
The YCIS String Ensemble impressed as always, performing complicated pieces with ease. “Spring” from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” arranged by Music Education Coordinator Cherry Chen, and Karl Jenkins’ “Palladio” were performed with great skill and maturity by some of the school’s most accomplished musicians. The Summer Concert ended with all of the performers taking the stage in a stunning grand finale.
The music programme at YCIS provides an abundance of opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning all throughout the year. For more information on the music programmes at YCIS please click here
