Mrs Shirley Mead is from Brisbane, Australia. She brought with her many years of experience in her home country in both the government and private education sectors and at both levels of classroom teaching and administration. She was the Founding Principal of a private school in Brisbane.
Mrs Mead also served as the Queensland Co-ordinator for Christian Community Schools, Australia. This involved visiting schools to offer assistance, helping to organise state conferences for the organisation and running various workshops.
During 1994 Mrs Mead did further studies in the area of counselling and in 1997 became a co-ordinator for “Seasons for Growth”, a peer support grief and loss programme. This involved taking the programme into schools and also training facilitators to work with small groups of children in this programme.
Mrs Mead was the Yew Chung Primary Co-Principal from December 1997 until February 2005 during which time the school grew and developed further. She now is one of the Superintendents for the Yew Chung Education Foundation.
