Jing Yang, Year 8, Gubei Campus
Not long ago, 74 students from Years 8 to 13 joined together and rocked the house! Fourteen bands prepared for the YCIS Battle of the Bands (BOTB), which was the greatest number of bands we have had in the history of BOTB.

Recently, a group of Year 10 students and faculty from Century Park Campus travelled to Xiuning County in China’s Anhui province to visit a YCIS Seeds of Hope School, located in a small rural village and surrounded by rice fields. The YCIS students had the opportunity to interact with the young children attending the school. Together they played sports, practised a co-ordinated dance, worked on an art project, and conversed using language skills that the YCIS students had built in class, and more. After returning to Shanghai, the students reflected upon the trip, sharing their thoughts about the meaningful experience, as follows:

Tanya, Year 11, Gubei Campus
To be a drama student or not to be a drama student? If that’s the question, then the answer’s pretty obvious. Be one! The three years that I’ve participated in our school’s Drama programme have been some of the best of my life. Whether you’re a lively extrovert, curious about the art form, or just naturally drawn to it like I am, Drama and Theatre have a way of consistently producing Tony-worthy performances (at least we’re certainly working passionately towards it).

Githu, Year 11, Century Park Campus
In my class of only 11 students, there are nearly eight different nationalities represented. This means that there are eight different languages that can be spoken, eight different cultures to learn from, and best of all, eight different parts of the planet that are instantaneously made accessible. All of this is made possible just by attending YCIS!

Anna, Year 10, Century Park Campus
At Century Park Campus, we put on drama productions with a relatively small cast. When I was in Year 8, we put on the 70’s musical Godspell, which was a great play for our school for a number of reasons.
