Dr. Betty Chan Po-king, director of Yew Chung International School (YCIS), was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in the United States, in recognition of her pioneering work in early childhood education and her consistent advocacy for excellence in all levels of education.
This has included her contribution to the best practices of both East and West in education through YCIS, through the positions which she has held, and through the international conferences she has organised. She is lauded for her vision of a generation of future leaders who understand both Eastern and Western cultures.
“Yew Chung International Schools have a sustained reputation for high quality education, incorporating child-centred approaches, play-based learning, professional development for staff, and the promotion of parental involvement,” said the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
