Each year, YCIS Shanghai, Pudong, Regency Park Campus presents a Performance Evening specifically to celebrate and showcase students’ talents. This year, Century Park Campus followed the tradition and hosted its Performance Evening, offering students an opportunity to go through a competitive audition process that qualified select individuals to share their skills with the community.
Head of Arts (Art, Drama, Music) Cathy Crossing comments, “We remain committed to YCIS’ motto of aligning with culture and arts , and started the Performance Evening specifically to complement the school’s group concerts so that students have an opportunity to showcase their talents individually to the school and the community at large.” This year’s performances delivered a full range of solos and duets in recorder, violin, piano, drums, voice, ballet and contemporary dances, jokes and kung fu.
The musical pieces reflected the cultural diversity of YCIS Shanghai’s students, drawing from modern pop, classical compositions and East Asian pieces. The audience was particularly impressed with the violin solo performed by Year 5 Jason Shi. His passionate and crisp delivery of Spring by Beethoven brought the entire hall to a silence of appreciation and awe.
