Standing Ovation for Seeds of Hope
The second annual Seeds of Hope Fundraising Concert at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing on March 18, 2012 marked another milestone in YCIS history. Over 350 student- and teacher-musicians from YCIS Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao campuses gathered on one stage to play a three-part concert series that entranced audience members and transported them around the world with a global music selection.
YCIS Shanghai Charity Gala Sets New Record
The fourth Annual YCIS Shanghai Charity Gala was held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Hongta Hotel in Pudong. One hundred and thirty guests revelled in the events of the evening featuring the theme “The Rhythm of Carnival”. Masks, feathers and beads embellished the ballroom and the attendees, as everyone enjoyed a wonderful dinner, a Brazilian band and dance, a lucky draw and an extensive silent auction.
Robotics Competition a First for YCIS Shanghai
On February 25 and 26, the YCIS Shanghai Robotics Team went to Tongji University for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge. The team was represented by two Year 10 students and Physics teacher Paul Torrington, as the remaining team members were in Thailand for the annual Year 12 study abroad trip.
Success for YCIS Shanghai MUN Club!
The Model United Nations (MUN) Club spent a Friday and Saturday in January at the Concordia MUN Conference in Pudong. Fifteen schools from all over Asia competed in the conference that saw over 250 participants.
Author and Explorer Speaks at YCIS Shanghai
YCIS Shanghai welcomes author and explorer Mr. Jeff Fuchs to give a talk about appreciating tea’s central importance to Chinese cultures on his 6,000-km trek across the Tea Horse Road, the ancient trade route that winds through the Himalayas.
YCIS Shanghai Ushers in the Year of the Dragon
China is, in fact, a collection of the traditions and practices of more than 50 minority groups that make up the country’s population. So when it came time to welcome the much anticipated Year of the Dragon, in late January, YCIS Shanghai’s Chinese teachers helped students prepare a full range of celebrations that are fun, meaningful and informative, and able to reflect the ethnical diversity of China.
YCIS Shanghai Sponsors Literary Festival
Living up to its motto to align with culture and arts, YCIS Shanghai is proud to sponsor the tenth Shanghai International Literary Festival, hosted by M on the Bund. The festival will run from February 29 to March 18 and will be attended by bestselling author Amy Tan, Pulitzer Prize recipient Edward P. Jones and The Simpsons’ legendary creator Matt Groening.

YCIS Shanghai Starts Model United Nations Club
YCIS Shanghai’s new Model United Nations (MUN) Club travelled to Hangzhou last month to participate in the Westlake MUN Conference with 15 other international schools. The conference lasted a weekend and allowed the delegates to participate in simulations of debates that are currently taking place at the United Nations in New York and at other MUN conferences around the world.
