YCIS After School Activities Build Character
Emily, Year 11, Century Park Campus I grew up thinking that grades and test scores are the only things that make a difference in school. It’s about memorising the terms and studying the notes and getting the A’s…right? Well...not actually.
What is it like to be an international school student?
Iyeh, Year 11, Century Park Campus Being a student at an international school is definitely interesting. As an international school student at YCIS, I am exposed to so many different cultures and I learn something new and cool about these cultures every day. It has also made me more sensitive toward people's traditions and beliefs. As a Nigerian student studying in China, I can say that I have certainly been given a chance to explore a different aspect of life in this part of the world.
What I Love About Celebrating Chinese New Year
Zi Wei, Year 8, Gubei Campus I have always been fascinated by Chinese New Year, and have learned a great deal about the holiday in school at YCIS. It amazes me that on this particular holiday, friends and families eagerly meet up, gather together, and catch up on each other’s lives.
Fun Fashion Show Event
Marion, Year 9, Gubei Campus Last month, I had the opportunity to attend the YCIS IGCSE Art Fashion Show. The show started with a presentation from the art students about how they constructed their creations and we saw some pictures of them making their designs. Then, a group of Year 10 Drama students presented a short skit before the fashions came out on the runway.
Why I Love My Teachers at YCIS
Sean, Year 11, Century Park Campus I am currently in Year 11, and the past four-and-a-half-years that I have attended Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS) have resulted in my most enjoyable memories yet. Personally, I find the teachers at my school to be really kind and helpful. They are patient with their teaching and in their diligence to help us students achieve excellence in the subjects they teach.
A Memorable Science Field Trip
Manuja, Year 10, Century Park Campus In January, the Year 10’s travelled to the Shanghai Natural History Museum, one of the largest museums of natural sciences in China. When we arrived at the museum, we were taken to the “class”. There was a museum docent there who taught us about how old the Earth is and how many extinct creatures we have had throughout history.
How to Prepare for IB
Dawn, Year 12, Century Park Campus As the past summer came to an end, I got more and more excited for Year 12 and my time studying IB to start. A new form teacher, the IB lounge, and free periods! I am eager to have an excellent two years of IB ahead, and I have set some huge goals I am confident I can achieve. And so, I started preparing for IB, and here’s some advice for you about how to prepare for IB, too:
Winter Sports at YCIS
Phaedra, Year 9, Century Park Campus One of my favourite things about YCIS is the diverse and plentiful sports programme. For one, the school provides students with a wide variety of sports throughout the year, such as touch rugby, soccer (the MOST popular — naturally), floor hockey (one of my personal favourites), volleyball, badminton, and last but not least, softball. The winter sports are the most fun for me, personally.
My Experience in the IGCSE Art Fashion Show
Joanna, Year 10, Gubei Campus The YCIS IGCSE Fashion Show – for most students this means a fun and relaxing evening event, but for the art students and teachers involved, this annual show means a ton of work and a lot of excitement! Back in October, we were told that we would be doing the show, and we were all enthusiastic and excited to be part of one of the biggest events held at our school this semester. For the last several months, the Year 10 art students, including me, were given the task of preparing for the show and we put our imagination, creativity, and determination to the test.
