At Yew Chung International Schools, our primary school campuses are places of energy and life, where there is evident enjoyment displayed by the students towards learning and where there are a wealth of opportunities made available to the students for their learning. Our YCIS Curriculum provides not only a strong academic education but is also a curriculum that emphasises an all rounded education – from cross-cultural experiences and international education with an emphasis also on learning about Chinese culture, to extensive music, arts and sports activities to an education designed to help develop a moral compass. Our campuses are truly places where learning is celebrated and where our students are encouraged to become people of character and integrity, people who have a strong belief system holding strong positive values, who know themselves and will become global citizens who make a difference in our global world.
Primary Teachers Miss Stump and Miss Zheng about Maths Co-teaching at YCIS:
Within the Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai) Primary School, there are many educational features that help to provide a truly international school experience.
- International Curriculum – The international Primary school curriculum is based on the framework of the National Curriculum for England with the added benefit of an extensive Chinese Language and Culture Programme.
Co-Teaching – Similar to the YCIS Shanghai international Kindergarten section, our international Primary school also has two teachers present in all classrooms. One Western and one Chinese teacher help to implement a bilingual learning environment. The Co-Teachers share equal authority in the classroom. They plan together and share the same responsibility in the classroom.
A Fully Rounded and Balanced Education – YCIS Shanghai’s international Primary school includes a wealth of different subjects including English and Chinese Language, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Physical Education, Music, Art and Design,Design & Technology, and Information and Communication Technology.
