After two months of academic intermission and separation from our friends, there is undoubtedly an air of excitement to be back to the buzz of life at school. The beginning of the school year is a chance to head back into the bustling routine of life at YCIS (and in my case, the final year of IGCSE) refreshed, optimistic about the opportunities the school year may bring, the chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and to tackle school with a fresh reserve of enthusiasm, such as “This year, I will do more ECA’s (Extracurricular Activities)!”

YCIS is a school that especially supports this excitement; each school year brings with it opportunities to have unique and profound experiences, such as the Education Outside of the Classroom (EOTC) trips in late October, the Seeds of Hope trips for Year 10 and 11, and biweekly trips to Shanghai Healing Home. ECAs also give students the chance to enjoy and expand their hobbies; personally I’m looking forward to participating in this semester’s drama production and the World Scholar’s Cup competition, and I’m also a part of the school’s cross country team.

Despite the prospect of our IGCSE exams in the spring and the coursework we have to complete in the interim, I have always found myself looking forward to my classes. My teachers have always encouraged me to do the best that I can and to pursue areas of study that I am passionate about, which I deeply appreciate.

I am very excited about this school year and the unseen opportunities it will undoubtedly bring, as well as the chance to participate in the activities I look forward to each year.
