Bilingual in environment, and international in variety is what makes YCIS unique. From Year 1 through Year 6, I always had two Co-Teachers, one English-speaking and one Chinese-speaking. My friends and I never thought twice when the language spoken in the classroom or on the playground was consistently changing. We were from all around the world, but we were brought together by the two languages we shared.

YCIS is also distinct from other schools because of the close community and the ability to make all students feel like they belong. This sense of connection can be difficult to find in a city of around 24 million people, but YCIS manages to welcome and nurture every single student in a way that suits their individuality. Small class sizes mean that everyone gets involved in discussions and everyone gets the attention they need, and a large choice of extracurricular activities (ECAs) means that everyone can get involved in their interests. Personally, I take advantage of the competitive sports teams, joining both the volleyball and football teams. I am also a member of the YCIS Media team, where we write stories about our students for our students. There is always so much going on that the hard part is usually choosing what to get involved in each semester.

YCIS is different from other schools because it is more than just a school, it’s a community.
