What 15 Years at YCIS Has Meant to Me

I’m originally from Hong Kong and have attended YCIS for 15 years. I feel like YCIS has really become home for me. For 15 years, I have been growing up with my fellow students and teachers.

My greatest accomplishment at YCIS is that I have been a part of the school’s Student Council for 10 years. I was the Vice President in Year 12 and I had the fortune of being the President in my final year here. Being a part of Student Council involves co-ordinating select events around school and truly representing the students’ interest. This year we planned many on-campus events and my favourite was the Movie Night that my classmates really enjoyed! The leadership experience that Student Council has provided me has really been fantastic and has really allowed me to exploit my capabilities and potential as a leader.

This year I’ve also participated in touch rugby. I used to be in choir, and have also tried theatre and music programmes here. I’ve tried many different activities in school and YCIS offers a bit of everything, which is a great experience to have. You can always find something that you are interested in available at the school, and if you can’t find a club that currently exists for your interests, the school welcomes you to start one yourself which provides a lot of freedom for involvement.

I will probably study Business at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in the US this fall, which I’m very excited about. However, I will definitely miss YCIS. Everywhere you go, every hallway, every sports field, you always can find someone you are friends with and it’s a wonderful open and warm environment. I will miss being able to know everyone when I walk down a school corridor. When I can say “hi” to someone in Year 8 and turn around and see a teacher who used to teach me three years ago, these small daily interactions will be memories I will take with me to college.
