The YCIS Secondary Programme enables all students to reach for and fulfill their highest academic potential, as well as optimal spiritual, social, moral, cultural, physical and creative development. The aim of the YCIS curriculum is to ensure that all students are afforded opportunities to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible global citizens, and caring contributors.


The YCIS Curriculum is grounded in the YCIS Philosophy & Objectives, and is based on the frameworks of the National Curriculum in England (Years 1–9), the International General Certificate of International Education Programme (Years 10–11), and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (Years 12–13). Our curriculum uniquely defines the rigorous and essential skills, knowledge, concepts, values, and enduring understandings that enable our students to achieve academic and personal success at university and beyond.

Incorporating both Western and Eastern cultures, students experience a truly international, multicultural and bilingual learning environment at YCIS, where linguistic skills in both English and Chinese are equally sharpened, as well as a deep understanding of and respect for cultural diversity and global awareness.

  • Lower Secondary: Years 7–9
    Students in Lower Secondary participate in rich learning experiences that provide breadth and depth across a wide variety of subjects, thus enabling students to explore their interests as well as new endeavours, while also experiencing academic rigor in core subjects. The curriculum is based on Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum in England.

  • Upper Secondary: Years 10–13
    Years 10–11: Students engage in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, internationally recognised as providing an external qualification that shapes problem-solving and investigative skills, and builds independent and collaborative work habits.

    Years 12–13: Students enrol in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), and globally recognised for its rigorous and international preparation for competitive admission to the world’s leading universities.

The YCIS Secondary Programme encompasses competencies and co-curricular activities that provide numerous enrichment opportunities that are beyond the classroom, to include creative and critical thinking activities, the YCIS Seeds of Hope charity, communication and technology programmes, World Classroom trips, research and problem solving clubs, sport and athletic competitions, Experiencing China excursions, applied arts exhibitions, and music and drama performances.
