    About YCIS

YCIS Shanghai marks our first footprint in mainland China. For nearly 30 years, it has expanded with 6 campuses across Puxi and Pudong, offering unique education pathway and competitive international curriculum for expat children aged 2 - 18.

At Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai), we are renowned for offering one of the most progressive programmes of international education in China.

    • The school's unique multicultural and bilingual approach to education, with a focus on both English and Chinese language learning, is recognised worldwide and helps distinguish our students in a globally competitive environment.

Our six campuses, which are located in prime areas in both Puxi and Pudong, collectively cater for Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary students, ages 2 to 18. As a school for the children of international families, our students come from over 50 countries and regions and are educated by world-class teachers from more than 20 countries. Our international curriculum helps to develop individuals with multicultural perspectives.

    Why YCIS

    • Unique Blend of East and West

At the root of our school's philosophy is the blend of two major cultures, of the East and the West. We believe in the benefits of becoming competently bilingual and believe that the real essence of a culture must not just be understood, but truly valued. To cultivate this cultural experience for our students, our campuses are led jointly by two Co-Principals, one international and one Chinese. They represent the union of the East and West, working closely as partners to oversee their campuses.

This system is mirrored in our Early Childhood and Primary classrooms with our unique Co-Teaching model, which supports the development of our students' bilingual and cross-cultural skills. Our vibrant Chinese Studies programme is based upon decades of extensive research and is integrated throughout the school curricula. Enriched with field trips and annual excursions to locations across China, the programme allows our students to develop a deep understanding of, and appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of their host country.

    • International Curriculum

An experienced cohort of educators work in partnership to provide a well-rounded, holistic learning approach for every subject and age group. The result is a unique programme drawing the best practices from around the world, not restricted to a single national curriculum.

The mastery of a wide range of skills is very much needed in the workplace today and will be of even greater importance for the next generation. Our education model provides opportunities for our students to develop important skills, such as:

      • Researching
      • Critical thinking
      • Analysis
      • Creativity
      • Problem solving
      • Collaboration

The ultimate objective is for our graduates to gain the ability to succeed in an ever-changing, globalised world.

    • Established History

The first Yew Chung School was established in 1932 by our founder, Madam Tsang Chor-hang, with a mission of making China stronger through education. The original school was for kindergarten-aged students. Even during its most humble beginnings, Madam Tsang held a profoundly advanced vision which became the root of Yew Chung's philosophy today.

Over subsequent decades, the breadth of education grew steadily to provide an equally enlightened education model for students from infancy all the way through to Secondary graduation. This development evolved and expanded to not just bring international education to students, but to also allow Yew Chung to serve as a pioneer for leading teaching methods. As the world has evolved and witnessed global changes, Yew Chung International Schools (YCIS) have remained a constant in international education and continue to be greatly sought after today. Each YCIS school is internationally accredited and authorised by international examination boards.

    • Focus on Values

Another key reason families choose YCIS for their children is the school's commitment to positively guiding each student's morals and values, which will help them make good choices both now and later in life. From Early Childhood all the way to Upper Secondary, every YCIS student realises the importance of helping others in order to work towards creating a better world.

This positive guidance forms the basis of our Wellbeing Programme, which is emphasised in all daily lessons, weekly assemblies, and other activities beyond the classroom walls, and are essential to the YCIS education and the creation of global citizens.
