    • With topics ranging from fashion to precious gems to large-scale urban architecture, an exciting discussion about Careers in Design took place this past Tuesday evening at Gubei Campus Hall. The event, one of a series of College and Career Night Planning Workshops, was attended by a large audience of Secondary students and their parents from international schools across Shanghai. In the event the YCIS University Guidance Counsellors held a vivid discussion with seven seasoned industry executives from various career paths within the field of design.

      The speakers included:

      • Ms Dorothy Tang, Assistant Professor/BA(LS) Programme Director, Division of Landscape Architecture, The University of Hong Kong
      • Dr J.A. Rueda, Professor of Interactive Design and Game Development, Savannah College of Art and Design, Hong Kong
      • Ms Fang Wu, Founder, Lumi Concept Store
      • Mr Kinsen Siu, Managing Director, Lafayette 148 – Shanghai
      • Ms Lisa Ng Tai Joo, Managing Director Greater China, Ferragamo Retail Hong Kong, Ltd.
      • Mr Nicholas Fardet, Product Designer, Neri & Hu
      • Ms Susanna Swee, Executive Vice-President, Asia, B+H Architects International

The workshop allowed students to get a feel for the educational and career path each speaker followed, and the types of personality traits that fit well within each career. The speakers answered questions about their real life experience working in their chosen profession, and about new developments in their field. They also offered sage advice to the students and parents, and information about internship opportunities at their companies.

The YCIS University Guidance Office will host their next College and Career Planning Workshop: Careers in Business, in January 2015. Stay tuned for more information posted about the event on www.ycis-sh.com!
