    • To celebrate the arrival of Chinese New Year and the “Year of the Sheep”, YCIS Shanghai Regency Park and Hongqiao campuses recently held events for all Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary students, and their families, friends, and staff to enjoy.

At the Regency Park Campus, families participated in a “tour” of 12 famous cities in China, created by Secondary students from the Century Park Campus who designed 12 classrooms to represent the cities. Upon arrival, families were given a map and were able to travel from room to room to learn more about the culture of each of the cities. The students also organised traditional games and local snacks from each city for everyone to try! Guests were also treated to a selection of student performances including Chinese dance and a Kung Fu presentation.

At the Hongqiao Campus event, guests enjoyed a variety of student performances, including Peking Opera, a Dragon Dance, and Chinese acrobatics. A series of games were set up in the classrooms, allowing attendees to participate in traditional Chinese games and crafts, such as rolling iron hoops, stilt walking, flower arranging, and painting.

In addition to the Chinese New Year celebrations, students at YCIS study Chinese language and culture all year round through the school’s Chinese Language and studies programme. Uniting the best elements of Eastern and Western traditions and practices, students in Kindergarten through Year 13 focus on reading, writing, and speaking Chinese as part of the curriculum.
