Students of all ages recently performed for parents, faculty, and friends at Yew Chung International School’s (YCIS) Century Park and Regency Park campuses in spectacular summer concerts. These two outstanding events, both held at the Century Park Campus, highlighted the hard work and dedication of the students and teachers, nurtured by the school’s music programme.
During the 2016 Summer Primary Gala, the students exhibited talents across a range of different genres and disciplines. Held in the theatre of the Century Park Campus, the concert began with a bang as the ‘Do Re Mi’ choir, comprised of students from Years 3 and 4, performed “We Will Rock You” to a captivated audience. The concert also featured music and dance performances influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures. Classical music, jazz, and ballet were performed alongside traditional Chinese dance and Chinese instruments, such as the Guzheng. The Primary School Orchestra and Do Re Mi choired combined for a fantastic finale, playing audience favourites “Bei Jia Er Lake” and “I Will Follow Him”, expertly arranged by Regency Park Music Teacher, Diana Dai.
The Century Park Campus’ Summer Showcase featured a diverse selection of music in a relaxed, picnic-style environment. Guests enjoyed delicious barbeque food while listening to the talented Secondary students perform. The Stage and Show band, class bands, and rock bands, produced by the students themselves, all performed with great energy, inspiring the audience to dance and sing along. Recent student winners of the Shanghai city-wide “Battle of the Bands”’ contest, ‘6 Sleepless Nights’, were a crowd favourite, and they played a stirring set which epitomised the professional and mature musicians they’ve become through the YCIS music programme.
YCIS has an extensive music programme for all age groups that nurtures talent and promotes creativity for its international school students in Shanghai. To find out more about our music program, please click here.
