This week, students and their families received a very warm welcome on campus from the YCIS community at a number of annual events prior to the first day of school.

At the Regency Park Campus, the school’s leadership team and faculty welcomed incoming families whose children will study at the Regency Park and Century Park campuses.

The students enjoyed visiting the campuses during the day to visit their classrooms, see their friends, and meet their teachers. In the evening, the school held the annual “New Families Welcome Barbecue,” complete with delicious food, activities for children, and the opportunity for families to get to know one another before the start of the school year.

For families at the Hongqiao Campus, students and their parents were invited to a “Welcome Tea” event, where they had the opportunity to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers, as well as to mingle with old friends and meet new classmates, and chat with the many community vendors on campus, including vendors for children’s activities, such as sports organizations, the Shanghai Mamas organisation, and the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts of America.

In the evening, the Gubei Campus held a Welcome Dinner in the beautiful cafeteria for new families, where students and their parents had the opportunity to talk with teachers and get to know other new families, and a fun movie was screened in the new Drama Room.

The annual Welcome BBQs are just the start of a number of activities and events that YCIS Shanghai hosts to welcome new students and their parents and help them settle into the school and greater community. Other activities include parent orientation sessions, curriculum introduction evenings, and whole school community events such as carnivals and bazaars. Many of these events are planned by the Parent Organisations of Puxi and Pudong (POP), which provide a community and support network for all families at YCIS.
