On 6 July, the 2025 IB results were officially released, and once again, YCIS Shanghai has delivered an outstanding performance. This year, our IB students achieved an average score of 34 points, well above the global average of 30.58, with 20% of candidates scoring 40 points or above.
Notably, one student earned the perfect score of 45 points, and another received 44 points.
In addition, within our non-selective, inclusive IB curriculum framework, 43% of students were awarded the bilingual diploma, which is an incredible achievement, demonstrating strong bilingual proficiency and well-rounded academic capability.
Congratulations to our remarkable graduates!
In subject-specific performance, 100% of YCIS students who took Mandarin ab initio (SL) achieved a perfect score of 7, which highlights our very strong Chinese Language programme at YCIS.
Excellent results were also achieved in a number of other subjects with an average score of 6 or above, including English B (SL), Chinese B - Mandarin (SL & HL), History (SL & HL), Geography (HL), Physics (HL), and Music (HL).
Among this year’s high achievers is Levona, who attained a full score of 45 points. She joined YCIS Shanghai Puxi at the age of two, and has spent the past 16 years growing and learning within the school community.
Nurtured by our whole-person education philosophy, Levona has grown into a confident, independent and focused young individual—an embodiment of the values YCIS strives to instil.
Sungwoo, who achieved an impressive 44 points, spent his formative years at YCIS Shanghai Pudong. He joined the school in Year 3 and has since developed from a curious young learner into a disciplined and driven IB graduate.
Supported by his teachers and peers, he continually challenged himself and pursued excellence.
Throughout their time at YCIS Shanghai, Levona and Sungwoo explored their strengths, honed their skills, and discovered their purpose. They have each received offers from top universities around the world to pursue studies in Law and Engineering, respectively.
As a whole, this year’s graduates have been accepted into many of the world’s leading universities, including: the University of Oxford, University College London (UCL), Imperial College London, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), New York University (NYU), University of Toronto, the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Berklee College of Music, and the Rhode Island School of Design, among others.
We are immensely proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to shine in their chosen fields, making meaningful contributions to the world around them.
For over 30 years, YCIS Shanghai has remained committed to its philosophy of holistic education, upholding the belief that education should be inclusive and tailored to the individual.
Academic results are never the sole criteria in student admissions and YCIS is deeply committed to the belief that education’s true purpose is to fully realise the unique potential in every child. By promoting open-mindedness and inclusivity, we empower each student to embrace curiosity, explore the world, and thrive in their growth.
The IB Programme represents the gold standard of education excellence and fully prepares the students to embrace the world that they are entering. Through systematic learning across six core subject areas, YCIS students develop advanced research abilities, multilingual communication, and a broadened global outlook.
Through this academic approach, our graduates pursue their passions and achieve well-rounded growth, developing their academic exploration, artistic appreciation, physical wellbeing and community service.
In just two months’ time, these bright and determined young individuals will head off across the globe to begin their next adventure. We wish them every success as they scale new heights and make their mark on the world.
