YCIS’s anniversary is celebrated on October 9, and it is known as “Founder’s Day”. All YCIS schools worldwide celebrate this day with their own activities. In Puxi at the Gubei Campus, we celebrated it by holding an athletics carnival.

Each Year group rotated around different sports and activities, including basketball, volleyball, a music marathon, and “knowledge ball”. All students dressed in their “house colours”, and some people painted their faces or temporarily dyed their hair, too, to show their school spirit! Throughout the day the spirit built as the students earned points for their house, and at end of the day the suspense was finally over when the winning house was announced.

It is also a tradition on Founder’s Day to watch a video-linked broadcast connecting all of our schools across the globe together. After assembling all of the students of all of these schools together, Dr Betty Chan, the Director of YCIS, addressed the audience, talking about how we’re all a part of the YCIS community. Then the video showed the other schools, and they were able to share with us about the activities that they did to celebrate this important day.

Founder’s Day is special for all of us, and it really does make us all feel like we are a part of something – a part of the YCIS picture.
