    YCIS Hosts International Chinese Essay Competition for Students

    • The “Yew Chung Cup” International Student Chinese Essay Competition, co-sponsored by YCIS, the TCSL Education Committee of Pudong Education Association, and the Office of Pudong Language Work Committee, recently hosted the final competition at the school’s Century Park Campus. In total, 335 essays from 13 schools were submitted for this competition, with YCIS students submitting a total of 42 essays. YCIS congratulates the following winners:


      First Prize:

      • Irene – Year 7
      • Constantine – Year 7
      • Qiqi – Year 11

      Second Prize:

      • Oi In – Year 7
      • Vermouth – Year 9
      • Mitchell – Year 11

      Third Prize:

      • Eddy – Year 7
      • Wai Sze – Year 7
      • Alice – Year 8
      • Emily – Year 9
      • Nien Yu – Year 12
      • Waylon – Year 12

      During the awards ceremony, 122 student winners were recognised, as were the representatives from the TCSL Education Committee of Pudong Education Association and the office of Pudong Language Work Committee.


      The Chinese curriculum is a critical component of YCIS’s educational programme, and the essay competition is one way for the students to demonstrate their achievements while mastering the language. Ms Amy Yang, Chinese Co-ordinator at the Century Park Campus, notes, “The students’ work demonstrates the comprehensive observation and interesting thinking that comes from studying in Shanghai, and displays the great literary talents and high Chinese proficiency level of these international students.”
