    • The beautiful Shanghai weather is here again, and YCIS students are celebrating outdoors with Sports and Carnival Days. In fact, all four of YCIS Shanghai’s campuses, in both Puxi and Pudong, have been alive with school spirit celebrating fun and fitness outdoors!

Recently, the Hongqiao Campus had a Carnival Day to raise money for the school’s Seeds of Hope charity. The day was filled with many entertaining activities, including a soccer goal shooting game, mini golf, sack races, balloon balance races, time puzzles, bean bag hoop tosses, a recycled book stall, and “the Limbo”. In total, the day raised an amazing RMB 89,257 yuan for the charity! The money will be used to assist selected rural schools in China to refurbish and build new facilities.

Regency Park Campus had their own Sports Day, planned by the Physical Education (PE) Department. Their day included relay races, basketball shooting, hula hoop races, scooter races, school spirited chants, and more! Mr Damien Hehir and Ms Mary Yu, Co-Principals at the campus, noted “The focus was on getting active, having fun, and participating as a group! The students loved dressing up in their colours and cheering for their team.”

Century Park Campus also had a Sports Day for both Primary and Secondary students. Students were able to participate in a range of events, such as a hockey relay, softball shot putt, football dribble, sand castle sculpting competition, and sprint races.

Combining both the elements of a Sports Day and a Carnival Day, the Gubei Campus had their very own “Athletics Carnival”. The fun and competitive day was filled with many traditional elements of track and field, such as the 100m, 300m, and 800m dash, as well as the javelin, long jump, high jump, and shot putt. In each event, winning students received medals for their achievements.

Springtime Sports and Carnival Days help to encourage teamwork, physical activity, and fun at YCIS Shanghai. However, sports are a big part of the community, all year round. YCIS students are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of sports programmes, such as basketball, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball. To learn more about sports at YCIS, click here.
