    • The annual Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards recognise the top results around the world in the examinations through Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), which is part of Cambridge University.

At the 2018 China Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony earlier this month, YCIS Shanghai students received more awards than any other registered international school in Shanghai for their phenomenal achievements in the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations. Four YCIS Shanghai students – Ji Woo, Beatriz, and Minseong from YCIS Puxi Secondary, and Shu Min from YCIS Pudong Secondary – were recognised for their incredible results in the categories of Top in World, Top in China, and Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs.

The foremost universities in the world recognise CAIE qualifications, which demonstrate that recipients have undergone rigorous academic testing. To achieve Top in China, Top in the World, and Top Across awards is truly commendable. Below is the full list of awards received by our students:

      Top in the World Award

Minseong – Foreign Language Mandarin Chinese

      Top in China Awards

      Beatriz – Foreign Language Spanish

Ji Woo – Co-ordinated Sciences (double award)

      Shu Min – Global Perspectives

      Shu Min – Physical Education

      Best Across Award

Ji Woo – Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs (First place in China)

The four students received six awards in total, with Ji Woo and Shu Min earning the sole award in their respective subjects/categories, and Minesong’s award representing the third consecutive year that YCIS Shanghai’s Chinese Programme has produced one of the top students in the world.

All of our students’ exemplary achievements in the IGCSE examinations are evidence of the effectiveness of YCIS’s global education approach. Congratulations to the entire class of 2020 for their exceptional results, and we look forward to their continued excellence in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

As CAIE Chief Executive Michael O’Sullivan said in his speech at the awards, knowledge is something that is built up over time, and educational opportunities need to be seized. O’Sullivan encouraged the students, saying “Take nothing for granted, and expect that you’ll have to learn even more in the future than you have already.” The educational opportunities for this group are boundless, and they are all in good stead to take on the academic challenges that await them.
