Students enthusiastically presented their favourite books, graphic novels, picture books, or magazines to their peers and teachers, displaying their reading passion and at the same time developing oral skills.

Visualisation is a crucial reading strategy in helping children understand what they read, so students were also allowed to explore mindful drawing. During the Book Weeks, teachers and parents (via video recordings) read to the children, who were drawing what they were visualising from listening to the stories. Teachers then displayed the best works on classroom doors.

Professional children’s book authors – including Amy Guglielmo, Laurie Ann Thompson, and Annette Bay Pimentel – also spoke to the students and parents via video calls, captivating them with their interactive stories. Another highlight of the week was the combined online assemblies bringing together children from our schools in Pudong and Puxi.

As per school tradition, on the last day of each week, children embodied the fun and joy of reading, parading through school wearing costumes representing their favourite book characters.
