    • Next year marks the Yew Chung Yew Wah (YCYW) 90th anniversary. For the occasion, Yew Chung (YC) and Yew Wah (YW) schools in Shanghai and Tongxiang will come together on June 26, 2021 to host a TEDx event.

TEDx is a grassroots initiative created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover ‘ideas worth spreading.’ TEDx events are organised by passionate individuals or institutions that seek to uncover new ideas and share the latest research in their local areas and spark conversations in their communities.

For this event, five YCYW schools will run TEDx Talks and exhibit creative and innovative works through workshops and performances. The event theme is ’Together, Building a Better World’, and is organised in partnership with Shanghai’s West Bund Museum. It will be open to YCYW students, parents, staff, and the wider Shanghai community, representing an opportunity for YCYW students to share their ideas, innovative designs, creative projects, and run workshops for the attendees.

      The TEDx event will include:

      Musical Performances

A creative collection of music and performance productions in a concert format presented by Primary students, orchestral and musical performances by Secondary students, and Primary and Secondary student choirs.

      TEDx Talks

A series of research and creative talks by students and teachers, with a strong focus on arts, creativity, design, and innovation.

      TEDx Exhibition

An exhibition of creative and academic displays of YCYW students' work, as well as interactive and immersive experiences for visitors. Works will include individual pieces, group projects, and sculptures, showcasing the students' creativity and discipline.

      Workshop

A range of interactive and immersive experiences and workshops for visitors organised by YCYW students, including music production, theatrical techniques, and approaches to STEM. Design & Technology departments will display a variety of technologies—such as virtual reality (VR), robotics, and 3D printing tools—for families to engage with throughout the event.

This exciting event aims to bring the YCYW and Shanghai community together, working collaboratively to discuss ideas and design solutions to build a better world for our young learners, their families, and our broader community. TEDx is just one of the many ways YCYW supports excellence among our students, raising their confidence and showcasing their incredible talents and knowledge.
