Summer is already upon us, and what a whirlwind year it has been! Every day at YCIS Shanghai is full of pleasant, surprising, and incredible learning adventures. Let’s look back at some of the highlights from the 2020–21 school year.
This year's celebrations on October 9 highlighted YCIS Shanghai's 27th anniversary. Students, teachers, and staff enjoyed marking the occasion together, celebrating the 88 years of progressive and international education that the organisation has provided.
We were delighted to announce Mr Ryan Peet joining the school as the new Co-Principal at YCIS Shanghai, Puxi in November, embracing our thriving Puxi community and meeting students, parents, and staff face to face.
We also began various ‘YCIS Connected’ events in November and December, promoting and maintaining open communication and relationships with parents and supporting their involvement and interest in being part of the YCIS Shanghai school community.
Students took part in various winter concerts before the Christmas break, as well as the Yew Chung (YC) and Yew Wah (YW) Composition Competition, showcasing their extraordinary talents across a range of instruments.
By January, offers from top universities around the world began rolling in for Year 13 students, including University of Cambridge, UCLA, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Duke Kunshan, Berklee College of Music, and The New School, Parsons.
Chinese New Year is a special time for friends and families to be united. To celebrate, students came together and participated in many wonderful, festive activities across the school’s five campuses.
In March, new world-class learning spaces were announced at YCIS Shanghai with the implementation of significant renovation works at both Puxi and Pudong campuses.
Ms Wang Lan, Party Secretary of Changning District, led a delegation to YCIS Puxi Secondary (Gubei) Campus to inspect the school's operations and meet with school representatives, thanking the school for its contribution to Changning’s economy, society, culture, education, and more.
YCIS Pudong, and the East China Normal University of Shanghai (ECNU), hosted a special ceremony to formally celebrate and acknowledge an internship partnership between our school and the university.
The YCIS Shanghai graduating classes from both sides of the river came together for a combined graduation ceremony at the elegant Pudong Shangri-la Hotel. Congratulations to the Class of 2021!
Four YCYW schools in Shanghai and Tongxiang hosted a TEDx event. Under the theme ’Together, Building a Better World’ and in partnership with Shanghai’s West Bund Museum, the event represented an opportunity for YCYW students to share their ideas, innovative designs, creative projects, and workshops.
Celebrating the achievements of students during their arts exploration and the 15th anniversary of our unique Artists-in-Residence Programme, the “Evolution and Transformation” art exhibition featured over 1,300 pieces of student artwork from seven YCYW schools in Shanghai and Tongxiang.
We cannot wait for all the great school events and initiatives in 2021–22! Happy holidays!
