    More than Grades: A Semester of Growth, Grit & Glory

    • As the year 2026 draws near, the first semester of the 2025-26 academic year at YCIS Shanghai has come to a fulfilling close. This has been a season abundant with achievements and memorable experiences, across our campuses we've witnessed the shining moments of hard work and the joy of growth. 

       

      Looking back on the past few months, we take great pride in the extraordinary accomplishments of our students. They have not only secured Top-in-the-World awards in Cambridge IGCSE examinations, but have also excelled across a wide range of elite academic competitions and sporting events. 

       

      At the same time, a rich variety of campus activities and community celebrations have infused the semester with warmth and vibrant energy.  

       

      Let us now revisit these remarkable highlights worthy of celebration. 

    • YCIS Shanghai Students Claim Global Cambridge Top Scores

      Our students have claimed multiple prestigious awards at the Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards for their exceptional performance in the IGCSE examinations! 

       

      Minna earned the Top in the World award for IGCSE Chinese as a Foreign Language, Jenny secured the Top in the World award for IGCSE Additional Mathematics, Glen received the Top in the World award for IGCSE English as a Second Language, and Soi also stood out in IGCSE Science with the Top in China award. 

       

      This impressive achievement is a high recognition of the students' exceptional academic capabilities and long-term dedicated learning. 

       

      Their success stems not only from their talent and consistent diligence, but also from the systematic academic support provided by the school and the encouraging learning environment that fosters exploration. 

    • YCIS Shanghai Students Triumph in Top Academic Competitions

      This semester, YCIS Shanghai students have been on a winning streak in top-tier global academic competitions, showcasing remarkable brilliance! 

       

      From the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) and US Math League Finals to the MIT iGEM CompetitionWorld Scholar's CupACAMIS VEX V5 Robotics Competition, and VEX IQ Robotics Competition — spanning mathematical contests, scientific innovation practices, interdisciplinary debates, and robotics challenges — our students have excelled and claimed numerous awards through their sophisticated problem-solving strategies, rigorous logical thinking, and outstanding teamwork. 

       

      They have not only demonstrated a solid academic foundation but also revealed their competitive edge and innovative potential in cross-cultural exchanges, writing a brilliant chapter of youth with their strength! 

    • YCIS Students Excel at Sports Competitions 

      This semester, YCIS Shanghai students have shone brightly across a host of international sports events! 

       

      From the SISAC Table Tennis ChampionshipSISAC Volleyball ChampionshipACAMIS Volleyball Championship and Cross-River Touch Rugby Championship to the Shanghai Inter-School Golf ChampionshipSSSA International School Golf LeagueQiandaohu Triathlon and Shanghai Swimming League — our students have left their mark of relentless perseverance on every field, fully embodying the passion of youth and competitive spirit! 

       

      Individual events also saw extraordinary performances! Our athletes triumphed over tough competitors and claimed impressive achievements at the 2025 Fala Changjiang Delta Junior Golf Elite Tournament and Maiyue Junior Golf Tour.  

       

      With remarkable stamina and unwavering perseverance demonstrated through their outstanding performances, they brought immense honour and acclaim to the school! 

    • YCIS Shanghai Celebrated Founder's Day 

      On 10 October 2025, YCYW campuses worldwide celebrated the annual Founder's Day, honouring the 93-year legacy and vision of Founder Madam Tsang Chor-hang, as we look forward to the infinite possibilities of education driven by innovation. 

       

      This year, YCIS Shanghai joined schools across the YCYW Network to celebrate this milestone through livestreamed events and joyful in-school activities. 

       

      All three of our campuses — Pudong, Puxi, and Lingang — prepared a wide variety of engaging events for Founder's Day, including friendly house competitions, creative challenges, and energetic performances.  

    • Exploring STEAM at the Maker Faire

      On 1-2 November, YCIS Shanghai made a fantastic showing at the Shanghai Maker Faire. The event provided an excellent platform for our students to showcase their talents: they brought a variety of VEX robots to the fair and engaged actively with visitors on-site.

       

      Beyond demonstrating their academic growth, our students also fully embodied their exceptional problem-solving skills and creativity.

    • An Array of Engaging Community Activities

      Each semester, YCIS Shanghai organises a series of events aimed at bonding the community, offering students a variety of engaging activities that explore different cultures and customs from around the world. 

       

      Building an international community is a fundamental principle at YCIS. Our goal is not only to nurture students' understanding of diverse cultures but also to develop globally competent and compassionate leaders who have a spirit of service and who aspire to create a better world.  

       

       

      Back to School Carnival

      On 7 September, Puxi Campus celebrated the Back to School Carnival.  At the event, participants experienced a lot of family-friendly activities, including global cuisine, unique shopping opportunities, live performances, exciting raffle prizes, water play and other fun games for everyone to enjoy.  This joyous event brought the YCIS community closer together, creating moments of happiness and fostering a strong sense of belonging among students, parents, and staff alike.

       

      Family Fun Day 

      On 27 September, YCIS Shanghai Pudong hosted a vibrant celebration of culture and community, themed "Jungle Safari". Students, parents, and teachers enjoyed a day filled with live music, line dancing, dunk tank, and service-learning showcases.  

       

      Christmas Tree Lighting & Market 

      In late November and early December, YCIS Shanghai's Pudong, Puxi, and Lingang campuses were filled with the holiday spirit as they hosted a series of Tree Lighting and Christmas Fayre celebrations. These events brought the community together to embrace the festive atmosphere and create cherished memories.  

       

      The festivities began on 28 November at the Pudong Century Park Campus with a magical Christmas Tree Lighting and Market. The event featured live performances, delicious international cuisine, and heartwarming moments with Santa Claus, attracting approximately 1600 attendees.  

       

      On 29 November, the celebrations moved to Lingang, where YCIS Shanghai Lingang and YWIES Shanghai Lingang jointly presented the spectacular YCYW Lingang Winter Carnival & Christmas Fayre. This grand event drew nearly 3,000 participants, including YCYW families and members of the broader community, for a day of festive cheer.  

       

      The final celebration took place on 5 December at the Puxi Campus, where the Gubei Christmas Market welcomed over 1,200 attendees. Parents, students, and staff enjoyed seasonal treats, shopped for unique gifts, and participated in festive games and activities.  

       

      Across all three campuses, attendees enjoyed a variety of musical and dance performances, as well as creative Christmas markets and vibrant art exhibitions. These events beautifully blended music, art, and community, offering everyone a joyful opportunity to share the magic of the season with family and friends. 

    • YCYW Shines at the 8th CIIE 

      On 5 November, the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off grandly. The Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network (YCYW) made a stunning appearance at the Hong Kong Services Pavilion.

       

      The YCYW booth attracted visitors from various fields including education, science and technology, and culture. Mr. John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and Ms. Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, also paid a visit to the Hong Kong Services Pavilion. They had a cordial conversation with Dr. Esther Chan, Deputy CEO (K - 12 Education) of the Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network, exchanging views on the future of education. 

       

      On the afternoon of 9 November, students from the YCIS Shanghai Interstellar Choir and the YWIES Shanghai Lingang Musical Ensemble delivered captivating performances.

       

      These performances not only served as a wonderful display of the students' all-round development achievements but also a vivid interpretation of Yew Chung Yew Wah's educational philosophy. 

    • YCIS Shanghai Hosts Its 4th Parent Networking Evening

      On the evening of 20 November, YCIS Shanghai hosted its 4th Parent Networking Evening. With more than 170 parents in attendance from the Puxi and Pudong campuses, the event unfolded into a memorable night brimming with warm exchanges and cheerful moments. 

       

      The Institutional Advancement Office (IAO), with the support of the Parent Organisation of Puxi, organised the event. It provided a platform for parents to meet, strengthened bonds within the YCIS parent community, and created opportunities for networking.
