Over the past few months, YCIS Shanghai students have delivered outstanding performances in various competitions, achieving remarkable results that showcase their exceptional skills and well-rounded abilities. We are incredibly proud of their achievements. In this article, we will look back on these impressive accomplishments and celebrate the success of our students.
YCIS Shanghai students have delivered outstanding performances in several world-class mathematics competitions, achieving remarkable results.
In the American Mathematics Competition (AMC), seven students qualified for the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination), and one student achieved a distinction.
In the UKMT SMC competition, all our participants earned awards, securing Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
In the Australian Mathematics Competition, several Primary and Secondary students achieved High Distinction, Distinction, and Credit awards.
In the Primary Mathematics Challenge, six students were awarded Gold or Silver medals.
In the Caribou Contest, six students achieved Top Place.
In Round One of the Math League, a total of 67 students from Year 3 to Year 12 participated in the competition, with 91% of them receiving an award and earning an invitation to the second round.
🏸 SISAC Badminton Tournament
Our Puxi SISAC Badminton teams delivered outstanding results in the SISAC Badminton Tournament. The D2 Girls and D1 Boys teams secured third place, the D1 Girls team finished seventh, and the D2 Boys team placed fifth. All teams ranked among the top in their brackets, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork.
🏀 SISAC Basketball Championship
At SISAC Basketball Tournament, our Pudong boys' basketball team delivered an outstanding performance, winning the SISAC Championship! Meanwhile, our girls' basketball team successfully defended their SISAC Championship. After a challenging first match, they triumphed in the finals with a score of 24-13! Every player made significant contributions to these victories. Congratulations to both teams on their hard-earned success!
🏊 Shanghai Swim League
Our Pudong swim team traveled to Nanjing for the Shanghai Swim League, where several students achieved new personal bests. A special congratulations to Swim Captain Jun Kai for winning the 50m backstroke,100m freestyle and 200m individual medley!
Meanwhile, our Puxi Swim Team also delivered an outstanding performance at the SSL swim meet in Hangzhou, breaking 15 school records.
Owen from Year 10 secured 2nd place in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly. Benjamin from Year 9 earned 3rd place in the 50m backstroke. Edwin from Year 8 took 1st place in the 50m butterfly. Tony from Year 8 won 1st place in 50m freestyle, 200m individual medley, and 50m breakstroke, and 2nd in 100m individual medley.
Our 11-12 year old boys’ came in 3rd prize overall in their age group.The secondary girls also performed excellently, securing 6th place in the Girls 200m Freestyle Relay.
At the recent VEX IQ Challenge: Rapid Relay event, YCIS Shanghai Pudong achieved outstanding success, winning the prestigious TEAMWORK Champions award with maximum points. This remarkable achievement has earned the team an invitation to the regional finals, which will be held in Guangzhou this February.
Meanwhile, at the ACAMIS International Schools VEX Robotics Competition: High Stakes, three teams from YCIS Shanghai Puxi competed among a total of 40 teams from various international schools across Central China. Notably, one of the teams achieved remarkable success by reaching the quarter-finals.
This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, collaboration, and determination exhibited by each member of the teams throughout the competition.
"My Favorite 24 Solar Terms" creative illustration event
Both Pudong and Puxi Students excelled in the "My Favorite 24 Solar Terms" creative illustration event organised by the Shanghai Science and Art Education Center. Over 40 students received excellent awards, highlighting the school’s achievements in Chinese studies.
The students showcased their unique perspectives and rich imagination, exploring the essence of the 24 solar terms while integrating poetry and etiquette, reflecting a deep understanding of Chinese culture.
Notably, Sally from the Pudong Y7 won first prize for her "Winter Solstice" illustration and had the opportunity to be interviewed by Shanghai Educational Television Station(SETV).
This outstanding performance once again highlights the educational characteristics of YCIS and promotes the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture.
