    • The transition from Primary to Secondary is a very exciting one for students and their families alike. At YCIS Shanghai, new classes and teachers, increased independence, and a change in campus, are all part of the transition to Secondary. In order to start easing the transition early, the school takes a series of steps to ensure both students and their parents are ready for the change. As part of this process, the Gubei Campus recently held a valuable information session for parents of Year 6 students from Hongqiao Campus.

During the morning meeting, the parents gathered and enjoyed coffee, tea, and breakfast snacks before engaging in a series of interactive presentations with the Gubei Campus Co-Principals, Curriculum Co-ordinator, Student Activities Co-ordinator, and Parent Relations Officer. The presenters provided the parents with a wealth of important information, including a general overview of the curriculum, a look into the experience Year 7s have, a description of the wide range of activities available to Secondary students, expectations about the homework in Year 7, and also the opportunity to watch a video of the current Year 7s who provided a firsthand reflection about the school environment. Throughout the presentations, the parents were actively encouraged to ask questions, provide comments, and express their interests regarding the transition process and experience for their children for the following school year. Following the presentations, the parents had a tour of the school to know the Gubei Campus.

Later this Spring, teachers from both the Hongqiao and Gubei Campuses will work with the students directly to help them prepare academically, physically, mentally, and socially for Secondary. In addition to information sessions, the students will have a full morning of “classes” at the Gubei Campus to help familiarise them with the Secondary campus, teachers, and new class routines before the 2016/2017 school year begins.
