Celebrating Achievement in Mathematics Competitions!

Over the past few months, YCIS students have achieved outstanding results across a range of international mathematics competitions.
From individual milestones to collective performance, these accomplishments reflect consistent engagement and progress in mathematical learning.
[ AMC 8 ]
In the AMC 8 competition, two students ranked in the top 1% globally, three in the top 5%, one in the top 10%, and five in the top 25%. In addition, five students received Certificates of Achievement, while one student earned the School Certificate of Merit.
Special recognition to Kyle (Y5) and Ziyan (Y6) for placing in the Top 25% and Top 10% respectively, competing against much older secondary students.
[ AMC 10 ]
In AMC 10, two students ranked in the top 10% globally and three in the top 25%.
[ AMC 12/AIME ]
In AMC 12, one student ranked in the top 5%, one in the top 10%, and three in the top 25% worldwide, with three students qualifying for the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination).
These achievements reflect not only students' strong mathematical ability, but also the continuity and overall strength of the school’s Mathematics programme.
[ World Mathematics Championships (WMC) ]
In the 2026 WMC Senior Qualifier, Year 11 and Year 12 students secured eight places in the Senior Finals, to be held at Imperial College London this summer.
This reflects both individual capability and the strength of collaborative performance.
[ Maths League ]
Our young mathematicians have truly excelled in the Math League Semi-Finals! Our students secured 30 high-level awards:

These accolades represent an exceptional standard of problem-solving and dedication from our students.
This July, the Math League journey continues on a global scale! Five students will travel to the United States to compete in the World Finals, held alongside an elite academic program led by faculty from top-tier universities such as Princeton and Columbia.
Additionally, for the first time, our Year 3 finalists will have the opportunity to compete in the newly established Shanghai Finals. Good luck to the students!

[ SASMO ]
YCIS Shanghai students have secured a total of 80 awards (Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention) in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad.
[ UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) ]

[ UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) ]
Two students participated in the UKMT-SMC competition. Students achieved a total of 2 Gold Awards, resulting in a 100% award rate.
[ University of Waterloo (Pascal & Cayley ]
In the Pascal and Cayley Contests, students achieved a total of six Distinctions, demonstrating strong foundations and effective application of mathematical reasoning.
[ Primary Maths Challenge ]
In the Primary Maths Challenge Bonus Round, a Silver Award was achieved by Emma with an almost perfect score of 24/25.
[ Australian Mathematics Competition (Australia-AMC) ]
Four students participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Students achieved a total of 3 Bronze Awards, representing 75% of participants.
[ YCYW Pi Day Champions ]
In the YCYW Pi Day Competition, YCIS Shanghai students delivered an outstanding performance.
Based on the combined scores of our top ten participants, we secured 2nd place overall across the YCYW network.
Three YCIS Shanghai students also achieved top individual rankings in the competition.
These achievements are not isolated highlights, but the result of sustained learning over time. From structured reasoning in lessons to flexible application in competitions, students continue to develop more mature approaches to learning and thinking.
We believe that Mathematics is more than a subject — it is a way of understanding complexity. The ability to think clearly in the face of challenges and to move forward amid uncertainty will serve students well beyond their examination results.
